To undermine the influence of the Rassemblement
Démocratique Africain , the French authorities incited
anciens combattants (African military veterans) to break
up their meetings by calling the RDA organizers anti-French and
claiming that they were foreigners (from Côte d'Ivoire
, for example) who were trying to undermine peace in the
Soudan.
