This report shows that inferior materials and techniques were
used in railroad construction. It specifically mentions using
local wood for crossties placed only 3 or 4 ties per section,
resulting in a separation of as much as 2.2 meters between ties.
It also mentions the use of crossties with a diameter of only 0.1
meter, although they were supposed to be at least 0.18 meter in
diameter. Finally, there is mention of the large amount of work
required to repair bridges destroyed during the rainy season
floods.
