Digitizing a Video

(1) Select a Beige G3 computer with a video card.

(2) Connect the video and audio outputs of your camera or VCR to the video and audio inputs of the Beige G3
 
 
(3) Set the screen resolution of the computer to 640 by 480. This is required for the program which will be used to record the video (Apple Video Player). This is done using the control tab at the bottom of the screen. Click the icon with the black and white checker-board grid and set the resolution to 640 by 480. 
(4) Set the audio input to RCA in.

 
(5) Double Click the Apple Video Player icon. 

 
 
(6) Confirm that the Apple Video Player preferences are set properly 

 
(7) Click on the movie camera icon at the top of the right window. 
(8) Click on the Record button at the bottom of the right window. 
(9) Press Play on the VCR or camera. The movie being recorded will appear in the window on the left. 
(10) Save the movie onto the desktop using a name such as elementaryorig.mov. This is your original file. Save a copy on Zip or CD. 
NOTE: Please limit video excerpts to one minute or less each.

 
 

(11) Open the file with MoviePlayer 2.5 and export it using the following settings: 100kbps Streaming - Music - Low Motion. Save this file using a name such as elementary.mov. This is the file you will upload to your portfolio!
