1.Research paper #1 related to some issue of organizational effectiveness: The student will select an organizational communication issue (gender roles in organizations, supervisor-subordinate communication, time management, etc.) and review the literature in the area. (Approximately 5 to 7 pages)
2.Research paper #2 For this assignment, the student will use EITHER research findings from the first research paper OR information from the text to analyze EITHER our classroom organization OR another work experience. (Approximately 4 to 6 pages.)
3.You are asked to write a letter to an organization with which you have had some contact. The letter can express satisfaction or dissatisfaction with a product or service you received.
4.Four group project reports on behalf of each student department: These will address issues of concern presented at the end of every work day (ex. applying a theory to the week's work task, assessing your department's progress on a task, etc.). Each individual department must submit a report via e-mail. The department may chose to have one person perform the task of completing the reports throughout the entire semester or they may share the responsibility among department members. I am only concerned that report be submitted in a timely manner and meet the criteria established. (Approximately 2 to 3 pages.)
5.Exams: During the semester two objective examinations will be given. These will cover the primary terms and concepts addressed in class and readings throughout the course.
6.The final exam will request that students apply their knowledge of organizational communication to their various organizational experiences. Five question options will be given. The student must respond to three.
7.In addition to the above, throughout the semester , students will be required to find several (5 or 6) articles related to topics of classroom discussion. The articles will be used for circulation and review by the entire class. This is a pass/fail assignment.
